Sphagnum Peat Moss
Peat moss is formed over a long period of time in peat bogs found in wetland areas. Sphagnum Peat Moss is an excellent substrate to add to your growing medium. It is free from weed seeds, pests and pathogens and can absorb up to 20 times its weight in water. It contains a variety of elements and is an excellent habitat for beneficial microorganisms. Peat Moss also contains a better carbon to nitrogen ratio compared to coco coir.
Benefits include:
- Increased water retention in your soil
- High CEC. (Holds onto nutrients in your soil)
- Source of organic matter, which will slowly degrade over time to feed your soil
- Improves soil structure
- Promotes drainage
- Prevents compaction
- Excellent addition to a soil blend and seed starter
Growers Tips:
- Use at 30-40% of base soil mix along with aeration/ aggregate and compost or vermicompost. Apply Forest Roots Mineral Pack to your mix to make your very own power house living soil.
- For a great seedling substrate, use 3 parts peat moss to 1 part aeration such as perlite or Leca. Apply Explogrow and/ or Mycoroot to this mix when sowing seeds for excellent results.
